What to Expect During Your Root Canal
- Digital X-rays. We take X-rays to see the extent of the infection and the shape of the root canals.
- Local anesthesia. We numb the area thoroughly so you stay comfortable. If you feel anxious, ask about sedation dentistry.
- Cleaning the infection. We make a small opening in the tooth, remove the infected or damaged pulp, and clean and shape the inside of the root canals.
- Filling and sealing. We fill the canals with a biocompatible material and seal the tooth to keep bacteria out.
- Restoring the tooth. Most back teeth need a custom crown to protect them from cracking. Some front teeth can be restored with a filling instead.
